How To Host A Gender Reveal Party

That moment when you learn if you’re having a girl or a boy is magical and something that many people love to share with their closest friends and family. The perfect way to let everyone know is with a gender reveal party, where you learn the sex of your baby at the same time as your guests. Here’s our guide to hosting a magical gender reveal party.

Schedule An Ultrasound

When you go for your gender scan ask the sonographer to write down the gender on a piece of paper and put it in a sealed envelope. Your little bundle may have their legs crossed when you have your scan! So it is always a good idea to arrange your party for a couple of weeks after, just in case you need to book in another scan for the following week!

The Big Reveal

The most popular way to reveal the gender is with a cake or cupcakes that have a pink or blue sponge or filling. Give the sealed envelope that contains your baby’s gender to the bakery who are making the cake for your party. Ask them to fill the cake with coloured buttercream or sponge to match; pink for a girl or blue for a boy, with a neutral colour on the outside. (Gender reveal parties are becoming ever more popular, so they will most likely have made a gender reveal cake before and will know exactly what to do). The coloured filling will be completely concealed until the joyous moment the cake is cut in front of all your friends and family.

Theme

The theme for a gender reveal party has to be pink and blue! Pink and blue mocktails, cakes, sweets, plates, napkins and decorations! Swizzels now make pink and blue Personalised Gender Reveal Love Hearts that you and your guests will adore and they can be kept as a memento of the special day.

Capture the Moment

The gender reveal is a very special moment that you will want to capture and cherish forever. Ask a trusted friend or family member to take photographs or if you have the budget, you may want to book a professional photographer. It’s a lovely idea to make a scrapbook, take Polaroid pictures of your guests and have them write special wishes for the new baby on the back. Or ask each guest to leave a message on video camera for your new arrival!

Candy Buffet

As it’s a party you will want to have some yummy sweet treats on offer for your guests. A candy buffet will look impressive and will keep guests of all ages happy. You can fill big glass victorian sweet jars with colourful candy and have cute striped retro paper bags for your guests fill and take home.

Fun & Games

Play some gender reveal party games with your guests. As guests arrive, ask them to write their name on a slip of paper and place it in a jar labeled “girl” or “boy.” Then, depending on your baby’s gender, pick out a name from the correct jar and give the winning guest a little present, like a bathbomb or scented candle.
