The Smile Group Smile Group is a registered perinatal mental health peer support charity. It was set up on Mother’s Day seven years ago after Ruth Eglin and Natalie Nuttall (co-founders) had personal experience of postnatal depression and found a lack of support at a community level.

They now operate weekly peer support drop-in sessions out of children’s centres in Macclesfield, Congleton and Sandbach, as well as a programme of 1-1 Home visits to parents who are unable to leave their home and come to our groups (thanks to funding support from Comic Relief).

Natalie said, “We’re thrilled to be nominated for the Community Heroes Competition, as we believe a sense of community is really helpful in relieving the sense of isolation that can be exacerbated by perinatal mental illness. There is wisdom in the adage ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. Huge thanks to Ruth for nominating us – what a lovely gesture!”
