Did you know that there are currently 105 different Love Hearts messages? Some of them have been featured since we first started making the sweets, back in 1954. That’s 66 years of enduring sentiment! In that time, there have also been some more short-lived messages that haven’t quite stood the test of time. Both ‘FAX ME and ‘PAGE ME’ came in the ‘80’s but to keep up with tech, they are no longer in packs.  There have been limited edition Love Hearts aplenty, celebrating everything from the royal family – Prince William’s 21st – to pop royalty with a One Direction collaboration.

And in the last 66 years, Love Hearts have evolved. Our lovely sweets began life as a novelty filling for a Christmas cracker. But now we have mini packs, multipacks, personalised sweets and giant rolls. You can even find Love Hearts biscuits, jigsaw puzzles and hand wash, among other things, if you just know where to look! And that’s all before you get to the foreign language Love Hearts loved around the world, and the sweet’s 1970s sojourn into flower power, where they briefly moonlighted as ‘Hippy Bits’ – grrroooovy, man!

The UK’s Favourite Love Hearts Message Revealed

This summer we conducted some vitally important, world-leading research, revealing integral insights into the UK’s national psyche. And it turns out that we’re not a lot of old romantics at heart, but rather the purveyors of happiness!

BE HAPPY

Yes, that’s right. The number one Love Hearts message favoured by the UK populace doesn’t involve words of love. It is, in fact, ‘BE HAPPY’. And it was voted in by 21 percent of our survey participants – 8 percent more than the next nearest contender.

…But the good news is that romance is not dead!  These are the UK’s top 10 Love Hearts messages:
