Last year I moved from Merseyside to East Yorkshire to be with my long-distance partner. I moved because obviously I wanted to spend more time with him but moving meant leaving my flexible 35-hour week job. I now have a 24/7 job and when I’m not in the office, I’m catching up on sleep. So despite closing the 130 mile gap, I actually spend less quality time with him than when we were living apart. He is really patient and despite the fact he is the breadwinner and his job requires him to drive all over the country (plus he runs round after his two kids from a previous marriage), he is really supportive of my career. He always has a hot bath ready for me when I get in and a home-cooked meal on the table. He never moans when I stand him up for a meeting or fall asleep when he takes me to the cinema. He truly is a gem but I don’t often have the time or energy to show him how much I appreciate him.
