When you think of family holidays, you may think of waterslides, kids clubs and exciting entertainment shows. However, we know that every family is different. Some of you are big fans of Love Hearts and some are team Parma Violets, or like us you might love both! As no two families are the same, a ‘typical’ family holiday doesn’t really exist, which means the possibilities are endless when it comes to booking a break with you and the kids. To help you out, here are few tips and tricks on how to choose the perfect family holiday.

1. Find the best flight time for you

How far can you and your kids travel? If you’re travelling with little ones, keeping it under 4 hours is usually the best plan with places like Spain and Portugal only a hop, skip and a jump away. If you’re all super-confident flyers then the possibilities are endless, you could head off on a beach break in the Canaries or the Caribbean! Once you have your ideal flight time you can start your search.

2. Looking for a sunny beach break or a breezy nature getaway?

Think about whether you want a super-hot beach break, a cooler but still warm summer break or a more ‘chilled-out’ holiday. If you’re travelling in the summer months, you can be looking at up to 40°C in places like Turkey, but then around 25°C in parts of Croatia.

3. ‘Get up and go’ or ‘flop and drop’?

Whether you’re looking to spend a week by the pool, want to discover every amusement park in the area or would prefer to spend a holiday hiking through the mountains, there’s a getaway for you. Once you know what you want and where to look, you’re sure to find a place that fits most (if not all) of your criteria.

4. Hotels, hotels, hotels

Now you have the ideal area (or a selection of areas) to spend your family holiday, it’s time to find a hotel. This is where any special facilities, features or rooms come into it. Perhaps you need connecting rooms, a self-catering apartment, or even want a choice of multiple on-site restaurants. This is the time to gather a few options that fit the bill, and round up your family to find the perfect family holiday for you.
