The Great Community Refresh by Swizzels – Terms & Conditions
- Eligibility
Entries must be submitted on behalf of a community-led, volunteer-run, or not-for-profit initiative. Projects that are council-run, privately owned, or for individual benefit will not be eligible. The project must be based in the UK.
Projects may be newly formed or long-established, but all entries must show clear evidence of planning, community engagement, and feasibility
- Entry Deadline
All entries must be submitted by the 30th of June at 23:59pm. Entries submitted after this time will not be considered. - Judging Process
All eligible entries will be reviewed by a panel made up of Swizzels’ internal staff due to deep understanding of company values, ensuring alignment with Swizzels’ mission, and promoting fairness and transparency. Entries will be judged against a clear set of criteria, including:
- Community impact
- Evidence of local need
- Project feasibility
- Whether the project is community-owned or led
- Appropriateness of funding amount – we’re looking for projects where a £1,000 grant will make a tangible difference: not too small to be impactful, and not so large that significant additional funding would be required to get started.
The judging process will be conducted fairly and without bias. All decisions made by the panel are final.
- Prizes
Seven winning projects will each receive a grant of £1,000, awarded to support the proposed community refresh initiative. This marks the 70th anniversary of Refreshers – with one grant awarded for every decade. - Project Delivery
Winners will have a maximum of 8 weeks from the date of receiving the grant to complete the project. Any delays must be communicated to the Swizzels team as soon as possible. - Use of Funds
Funds must be used strictly for the project detailed in the winning entry. The grant cannot be used for personal gain or redistributed. Winners must outsource any materials, manpower, construction, design, or other required services through appropriate third parties and are responsible for ensuring safety and compliance. - Proof of Completion
All winners will be required to provide:
- A brief written summary of the completed project
- Photographic evidence
- A breakdown of how the £1,000 was spent (e.g. receipts or invoices)
Failure to provide adequate proof may result in the organisation being excluded from future Swizzels initiatives or required to return unspent funds.
- Publicity & Promotion
By entering the competition, applicants agree that Swizzels may feature their project in marketing, or promotional materials, including social media, photography, press releases, and the Swizzels website. Any shared content will be used respectfully and with credit where possible. - Data Protection
All personal data submitted as part of the entry will be processed in line with current UK data protection legislation and will not be shared with third parties outside the judging panel. - General
Swizzels reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be clearly communicated.
