My mum had a preventative double mastectomy 18 years ago after losing my Auntie to breast cancer aged 33. She has a very high chance of getting it too so had the op without a second thought so she would ensure she would be around for myself, my brothers, my dad and the rest of the family. She has done a lot of volunteer talks to other women going through this, showing them her reconstruction and scarring and reassuring them as a very emotional and frightening time. She’s an inspiration and deserves a treat for always being so modest and doesn’t want any fuss. She enjoys helping others out of her tragedy.
